Position Overview

The Senior Buyer is responsible for handling all the purchasing activities related to specific assigned commodities while beginning to contribute and participate in a leadership role in projects/activities.

This position requires the use of initiative and independent judgment. Must have analytical skills and excellent communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, and requisition material to support production and customer requirements by maintaining planning parameters of lead-time, reorder point, safety stock and reorder quantity in accordance with the company’s inventory and shipment objectives.
Monitor and act on exception messages within SAP such as expedites and de-expedites open orders to more appropriate time frames as indicated by MRP changing demands.
Monitor and ensure supplier on time delivery performance.
Maintain purchasing information records.
Work with receiving and accounts payable to reconcile receiving errors and invoice issues.
Handle various commodities and becoming fully familiar with multiple commodities to be successful in any commodity assignment.
Assume a leading role within the department for coordination and resolution of vendor problems.
Expand their roles with Operations Personnel to fully communicate and resolve procurement problems.
Make certain the purchasing documents are processed in accordance with Corporate’s standard operating procedures.
Work closely with SQE on negotiations with vendors on rejections, disposition, and adjustment of non-conforming materials.

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years related experience and/or training in procurement.
  • Purchasing experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience working with MRP systems; SAP highly preferred.
  • Solid computer skills; MS Office understanding and application.
  • Solid Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookups, data manipulations)
  • Basic understanding of inventory and documentation management systems.
  • Good communication, customer service, and supplier relation skills.

Education

Bachelors Degree en Business o Engineering General
Specialized Studies en English
